Course Details: 1. Athletic Therapy Program at Sheridan is delivered utilizing a competency-based education (CBE) model in its curricula. Upon graduation, students will be proficient in a set of competencies (AT Expert, Communicator, Health Advocate, Leader, Professional, Collaborator, and Scholar) according to CATA standards and requirements. This teaching and learning strategy is entrenched in curriculum of Allied Health professionals in Canada. CBE is a framework that identifies desired performance characteristics in training proficient and at entry level to practice Allied Health professionals. For a list of competencies associated with this course, please refer to the Course Plan and/or the Program Virtual Community CATA Folder which includes further information about the CBE Framework and the Programmatic Evaluation Plan.
2. To ensure competency development, participation in labs is mandatory. This allows faculty to observe the development of all essential skills required to practice as a Certified Athletic Therapist and ensures public safety. Non-compliance poses a serious liability to both the program and your professional development. In the event a student misses more than 20% of the scheduled labs or consecutive labs within a module, they will be placed on a learning contract created by their faculty. Failure to meet the terms of the learning contract prior to any course evaluation will result in disqualification from attempting the subsequent practical examination. It also may result in the removal from external/internal field placement and hinder future practicum experiences.
