Calendar Description
Designed for the serious young artist, this course teaches basic drawing skills such as measurement, values, texture, and perspective. Using both still life and the draped human figure, drawings are rendered in pencil, conte, charcoal and ink. Basic drawing materials supplied.

Detailed Description
COURSE GOALS A variety of Observational techniques and drawing methods are introduced to increase the students drawing ability and encourage them to experiment and explore in a safe environment without the fear of failure. A variety of rendering techniques will be studied using various mediums.

Course Details:
DAY 1
Explanation/handing out of the necessary supplies.  Warming up 
explained.  Gestures of objects and the use of basic shapes.  Basic 
Perspective.  Observational techniques will be demonstrated including 
blind contour and negative space studies and upside down drawing.

DAY 2
Medium exploration carried out including conte, ink, ciaroscuro.  A 
variety of drawing techniques will be used including cross hatching 
and cross contour.

DAY 3
Gestures, Angles, Line of Action of people ... with clothed model 
applying rules learned in previous class.

DAY 4
Rules of Composition.  Still life set up will allow the student to 
increase their ability to perform the techniques studied to date.

DAY 5
Students will be asked to help create the composition of a still life 
and then complete a finished study of it.  Use of thumbnails and rough 
studies to produce final drawing.

The principle of academic honesty requires that all work submitted for evaluation and course credit be the original, unassisted work of the student. Cheating or plagiarism including borrowing, copying, purchasing or collaborating on work, except for group projects arranged and approved by the faculty member, or otherwise submitting work that is not the student's own violates this principle and will not be tolerated. Instances of academic dishonesty, including assisting another student to cheat, will be penalized as detailed in the Student Handbook.

Students who have any questions regarding whether or not specific circumstances involve a breach of academic honesty are advised to discuss them with the faculty member prior to submitting the assignment in question.
