Detailed Description
This course will cover the basic procedures involved in preparing for veterinary surgeries and appropriate behaviour in the surgery room. Key concepts addressed include record keeping, pre and post-op duties, handling and cleaning of surgical instruments, common elective surgeries, sterile and non-sterile procedures and asepsis.

To achieve the critical performance, students will have demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Assist in preparing animals for surgical procedures.
  2. Provide clients with basic information on common procedures.
  3. Assist the veterinary team with both pre and post-op duties.
  4. Understand the safe handling and cleaning of surgical instruments.
  5. Understand safe behavior in and around the surgery room.
  6. Maintain a surgery logbook.

Evaluation Notes and Academic Missed Work Procedure:
Assignments are a combination of written, multiple choice, and basic problem solving. The passing grade is 50%. The final grade will be issued by the registering college.
