Detailed Description
Learn administrative and clerical procedures specific to the veterinary medical office practice. Topics included are reception, appointment scheduling, telephones skills and procedures. Develop an awareness of the importance of proper preparation of veterinary records and an understanding of invoicing, basic computer skills and how to function in a professional manner within a veterinary setting.

Course Critical Performance and Learning Outcomes

  Critical Performance:
Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to complete basic communication with clients, doctors and staff in a veterinary hospital with the basic skills required to allow them to collect, transcribe and report important information, accurately.
 
Learning Outcomes:

To achieve the critical performance, students will have demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Communicate effectively with clients, co-workers and supervisors by various means including verbal, written and non-verbal communications
  2. Collect and report information pertaining to clients and patients using a variety of veterinary office documentation
  3. Identify and describe how privacy legislation and ethics play an important role in veterinary practice
  4. Describe stress, and the impact on a person, and identify ways to reduce stress both at home and in the workplace
  5. Identify and describe methods of scheduling appointments
  6. Identify and describe the point of sale process and why it is important to a veterinary office
