Section II: Course Details

Detailed Description
This course provides students with the knowledge of project management processes as they relate to scope and time management. Students review these processes in detail, including the development of the scope statement, the Work Breakdown Structure and the scheduling and estimating of project activities. Concepts from probability theory and statistics are used in time management for duration estimation under uncertainty. Critical chain analysis is used to determine resource constraints. Techniques for controlling scope and scheduling change and monitoring overall project performance are also discussed. Students will be required to purchase a textbook. Course Critical Performance and Learning Outcomes

  Critical Performance:
By the end of this course, students will have demonstrated the ability to discuss both the scope and time management processes that are fundamental to project success,learn the tools and techniques required to manage the scope of a project and the critical schedule requirements.
 
Learning Outcomes:

To achieve the critical performance, students will have demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Explain the theoretical concepts and principles of project scope and time management.
  2. Explain how scope and time fit into the project lifecycle.
  3. Describe the scope and time management processes.
  4. Create a project charter, Work Breakdown Structure, and scope statement for a project.
  5. Create a network diagram for a project.
  6. Calculate the project's completion date using the performance management measurement earned value management,(EVM)
  7. Choose a technique that could expediate a project.
  8. Describe how scope and time management fit into the overarching project management plan.
  9. Discuss the tools and techniques used in controlling project scope and time management.

Evaluation Notes and Academic Missed Work Procedure:
TEST AND ASSIGNMENT PROTOCOL The following protocol applies to every course offered by Continuing and Professional Studies. 1. Students are responsible for staying abreast of test dates and times, as well as due dates and any special instructions for submitting assignments and projects as supplied to the class by the instructor. 2. Students must write all tests at the specified date and time. Missed tests, in-class/online activities, assignments and presentations are awarded a mark of zero. The penalty for late submission of written assignments is a loss of 10% per day for up to five business days (excluding Sundays and statutory holidays), after which, a grade of zero is assigned. Business days include any day that the college is open for business, whether the student has scheduled classes that day or not. An extension or make-up opportunity may be approved by the instructor at his or her discretion.
