Section I Notes: This course is offered in a classroom version and an online version. In the classroom version, classes are conducted on campus, students engage in classroom instruction. The online version is a web-based course offered entirely online through Sheridan College, students will need reliable access to the internet. Students should have a basic level of comfort using computers as well as the self-discipline to study online.

Section II: Course Details

Detailed Description
Students learn to create a business case based on a real-life case study and to communicate in a simulated environment, the business case to decision makers and other stakeholders. Students learn to differentiate between needs, goals and objectives and to set quantifiable objectives. They perform a cost-benefit analysis to calculate key financial metrics, including return on investment (ROI) and payback period. Students apply tasks and techniques from the Enterprise Analysis knowledge area of the BABOK (IIBA Business Analysis Body of Knowledge) including the assessment of capability gaps (gap analysis), the formulation of a problem statement, the definition of the solution scope using a scope model (context diagram), and the creation of a weighted scoring table to support the decision process (decision analysis). Students participate in online readings, discussions, quizzes and a group case study.

This is an elective course in the Business Analysis Sheridan Certificate offered through the Faculty of Continuing and Professional Studies.

Course Critical Performance and Learning Outcomes

 Critical Performance 
By the end of this course, students will have demonstrated the ability
to develop a business case for a proposed solution using a real life
business scenario.

Learning Outcomes

To achieve the critical performance, students will have demonstrated
the ability to:
1. Identify the tasks and techniques in the Enterprise Analysis 
   Knowledge Area of the BABOK (Business Analysis Body of Knowledge).
2. Formulate a problem statement to identify the business need.
3. Create a context diagram, to define the scope of the proposed 
4. Perform a cost-benefit analysis to provide a basis for comparing 
   the alternatives presented in a business case.
5. Calculate metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to 
   determine whether the organization objectives have been met by the 
6. Create a weighted scoring table, to rank and select from among the
   alternatives considered in the business case.
7. Develop a business case, to justify an investment in a proposed
