Detailed Description
Students learn the inspection process for thermal insulation, vapour retarders and ventilation systems. The inspection of interior elements of residential dwellings such as walls, ceilings, floors, basements, doors, windows, interior stairs/railings, installed countertops and cabinets and garage door(s) operators are also covered.

Course Critical Performance and Learning Outcomes

	Critical Performance:
	By the end of this course, students will have demonstrated the ability to apply the processes and procedures of interior and insulation inspection.

Learning Outcomes:

To achieve the critical performance, students will have demonstrated the ability to:

Inspect the following to identify type, material, condition, safety concerns and other issues: thermal insulation; vapor retarders; ventilation systems of attics; crawl spaces; roof assemblies and interior spaces; walls; ceilings; floors; doors and windows; steps; stairways; landings and railings; installed countertops and cabinets; garage doors and door operators.
Identify the common problems that apply to each insulation/interior component named as well as the causes and implications of each problem.
Describe the inspection procedures involved with each component.
Define and use proper terminology related to residential insulation and interiors.

Evaluation Notes and Academic Missed Work Procedure:

Since this is a professional credit subject, marking standards reinforce professional practice by demanding legible, tidy work. Written assignments should be well organized and grammatically correct, with proper spelling and punctuation. Late assignments are subject to being penalized. 

To attain a passing grade for the subject, a student must complete and obtain a passing grade on all combined assignments and tests (term work) and also a passing grade on the final exam.  50% is a passing grade.

Note:  A minimum grade of 70% in all Home Inspection courses is required by the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI) for the Registered Home Inspector (RHI) designation.
