Detailed Description
Students learn about cooling systems and heat pumps, learn to identify typical defects, and apply correct inspection techniques.

This is a compulsory course in the Home Inspection Training program.

Course Critical Performance and Learning Outcomes

	Critical Performance:
	By the end of this course, students will have demonstrated the ability to accurately determine the status of air conditioning and heat pump functions in a residential dwelling for the benefit of a purchaser.

Learning Outcomes:

To achieve the critical performance, students will have demonstrated the ability to:

Inspect the following to identify type, material, condition, safety concerns and other issues: cooling systems; cooling distribution systems; and residential heat pumps.
Identify the common problems that apply to each cooling/heat pump system component named, as well as the causes and implications of each problem.
Describe the inspection procedures involved with each component.
Define and use proper terminology related to cooling systems and heat pumps.

Evaluation Notes and Academic Missed Work Procedure:

Since this is a professional subject, marking standards reinforce professional practice by demanding legible, tidy work. Written assignments should be well organized and grammatically correct, with proper spelling and punctuation. Late assignments will be penalized.   

To attain a passing grade for the subject, a student must complete and obtain a passing grade on all combined assignments and tests (term work) and also a passing grade on the final exam. 50% is the passing grade.

Note: A minimum grade of 70% in all Home Inspection courses is required by the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI) for the Registered Home Inspector (RHI) designation.
