Section I Notes: For individuals interested in becoming a registered insurance broker in the province of Ontario, the Basic Broker program takes students through the Fundamentals of Insurance textbook and covers the educational requirements established by RIBO to challenge the Level 1 Licensing exam.

 
 
Section II: Course Details

Detailed Description
Acquire the skills required of insurance brokers by the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO). Learn about insurance principles; personal auto insurance; commercial, habitational and liability coverages; travel insurance; insurance law; and the RIB Act, Regulations and By-laws. This course is recommended for those wishing to obtain their RIBO Level 1 (under supervision) License. It is equivalent to the 10-day course offered by the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario at the School of Insurance. Note: In addition to the tuition fee paid to Sheridan, students are responsible for purchasing a RIBO Prep Kit from the Insurance Brokers' Association of Ontario (IBAO) as well as paying their exam fee of $180 to RIBO to write the licensing exam. Instructors may from time to time use different forms of testing in order to monitor students' progress through the material presented in this course. However, there are no obligatory college-based tests, exams, or grades associated with this course. This is a non-credit course designed to help students prepare to write the externally-administered, Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario (RIBO) Level 1 (under supervision) Licensing exam.

The program starts with the insurance fundamentals such as insurance history, function of contracts and policies and progresses into insurance products and coverages including habitational, automobile, liability and travel health insurance, completing your training with the governance of insurance in Ontario, RIBO and the RIB Act.
