Land Acknowledgement

Sheridan College resides on land that has been, and still is, the traditional territory of several Indigenous nations, including the Anishinaabe, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Wendat, and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Detailed Description
Learn to cultivate a personal vision as an artist. Develop the ability to speak clearly and write coherently about created work - skills essential to artists planning professional careers. Learn about portfolio presentation, proposals, CV's and artist's statements. Please bring to class any work to be included in a personal portfolio. Prerequisite(s): This workshop is to be taken only after the completion of all compulsory and elective courses in the Fine Arts programs

Course Critical Performance and Learning Outcomes

  Critical Performance:
By the end of this course, students will have demonstrated the ability to develop a portfolio of their artistic work.
 
Learning Outcomes:

To achieve the critical performance, students will have demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Demonstrate and highlight their artistic strengths and work through portfolio of work.
  2. Write a focused resume.
  3. Draft a clear, consise, and revealing artists statement.
  4. Assemble a portfolio of work

REQUIRED FOR CLASS: Bring a portfolio of your best work. 

Students can expect this workshop to contain:

  • Introduction and welcome 
  • Discussion on how to approach your particular creative ambitions 
  • Discussion on different ways of explaining your work to others 
  • Discussion on your personal visions and the importance of these to their creative work
  • Introduction to Artist's Statement, C.V., Proposals, and visual forms of presentations - folio, slides, etc
  • Discussion and work on relating Artist's Statement to portfolio contens 
  • Prepare and focus your work to include in your portfolio 
  • Go over presentation of Portfolio's in relation to your Artist Statement 
  • Critique of each other's Portfolio's, C.V., Artist Statement's and more
