Section I Notes: This workshop will be scheduled in a PC lab, and therefore, participants will not be required to bring their own laptop. This workshop is designed for Windows Office 2016 and therefore, not applicable for Mac products.

 
 
Section II: Course Details

Detailed Description
In this workshop, students learn how to use Microsoft Excel to help with decision making and financial planning by setting up spreadsheets to track the household income, expenses, and debts. Through hands on activities, students run what-if scenarios and introduce debt management techniques.

This workshop is not part of a program. This workshop may be beneficial for students seeking to further develop their Microsoft Office Excel skills to specific professional and personal interest applications.


Course Critical Performance and Learning Outcomes

  Critical Performance:
By the end of this workshop, students will have demonstrated the ability to manage their family finances and budgeting using Microsoft Excel.
 
Learning Outcomes:

To achieve the critical performance, students will have demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Analyze data using Excel Tables, and Financial and Logical functions.
  2. Apply advanced formatting techniques including styles, format painter, templates, column width and height, font settings, and conditional formatting to enhance the appearance of worksheets.
  3. Calculate income, expenses, and debts as they relate to a household.
  4. Input and compare pricing quotes in Excel.
  5. Set up a monthly budget.

4. Calculation of the savings amount required for a “rainy day” fund
5. Planning for a large expense
