Section II: Course Details

Detailed Description
In this course, students develop an introductory skill level with Adobe After Effects to complete post-production of digital effects or motion graphics. After Effects is a top compositing application used in film-making, video games and television production. Students explore digital art composition, colour blending and correcting, and compressing time and space within a creative video product. Students also develop skills focused on motion tracking and visual effects, 2D and 3D special awareness, and advanced editing.

Course Critical Performance and Learning Outcomes

  Critical Performance:
By the end of this course, learners will have demonstrated the ability to utilize the creative capabilities of Adobe After Effects for fundamental post-production activities for film, video games, online content, and other creative projects.
 
Learning Outcomes:

To achieve the critical performance, students will have demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Develop layers and other timeline fundamentals.
  2. Visualize and apply basic compositing techniques.
  3. Analyze and interpret increasingly advanced editing techniques.
  4. Develop accurate motion tracking techniques.
  5. Create synthetic lights and cameras in an After Effects 3D space, and program and control their movements.
  6. Explore the use of masks and develop compositing and visual effect treatments with their use.
  7. Handle type tool and working with text.
  8. Formulate a workflow and incorporate organized file management practices through importing and exporting of files.

Evaluation Notes and Academic Missed Work Procedure:
TEST AND ASSIGNMENT PROTOCOL The following protocol applies to every course offered by Continuing and Professional Studies. 1. Students are responsible for staying abreast of test dates and times, as well as due dates and any special instructions for submitting assignments and projects as supplied to the class by the instructor. 2. Students must write all tests at the specified date and time. Missed tests, in-class/online activities, assignments and presentations are awarded a mark of zero. The penalty for late submission of written assignments is a loss of 10% per day for up to five business days (excluding Sundays and statutory holidays), after which, a grade of zero is assigned. Business days include any day that the college is open for business, whether the student has scheduled classes that day or not. An extension or make-up opportunity may be approved by the instructor at his or her discretion.
