Section I Notes: As of Fall 2019, our Adobe registration requirements will be changing. Students will need to register for the course at least three (3) days prior to the course start date. Upon registration, students will need to register with Adobe and download a license linked to their Sheridan username. A license can be downloaded by visiting https://getadobe.sheridancollege.ca. Upon the start date of the course, students will only be able to participate in the course if they've downloaded the appropriate license and logged in with their username and password. Last minute registrations will not be accepted. For information regarding the downloading of licenses, please contact our IT department at (905) 845-9430 ext. 2150 prior to the start date of your class.

 
 
Section II: Course Details

Detailed Description
Focus on the basics of digital editing with Adobe Premiere. Topics include customizing preferences, standard definition and 16:9 widescreen sequence settings, capturing video and audio, importing still images, adding transitions, music, and text, finishing and final output. Photoshop tips catering specifically to video editing will also be covered in this workshop. Instruction is in a MAC lab.

Course Critical Performance and Learning Outcomes

  Critical Performance:
By the end of this course, students will have demonstrated the ability to produce basic video preparation skills including preference setting, music and voice over addition, time codes, text addition, playback windows, and sequence setting.
 
Learning Outcomes:

To achieve the critical performance, students will have demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Identify basic image preparation fundamentals from Photoshop to Premiere Pro
  2. Distinguish between when to use PNG vs. PSD vs. JPEG
  3. Compose basic video preparation including setting preferences, project names, timelines, etc
  4. Recognize sequence settings in relation to video preparation
  5. Differentiate between drop frame and non-drop frame and when to use
  6. Insert video footage into Premiere Pro for editing
  7. Produce DV editing techniques including adding video, audio, music, and voice over to project
  8. Judge and edit a 30 second commercial
  9. Manipulate Photoshop documents into Premiere Pro for editing
  10. Utilize Quicktime Pro features for exporting creations
