Section I Notes: This course is offered in a classroom version and an online version. The online version is a web-based course offered entirely online through Sheridan and hosted by Sheridan College. Students taking this course will need reliable access to the internet, and should have a basic level of comfort using computers as well as the self-discipline to study online. Students can expect to spend an additional three hours per week for online activities such as tutorials and projects. In addition, students need to have access to minimum hardware and operating system requirements in order to utilize online training, exams, projects and to complete tests.

Detailed Description
Learn how to use Microsoft Excel to create, format, edit, print, and save worksheets/workbooks, master formatting techniques, insert formulas,insert headers and footers, sort data, insert images and objects, use SmartArt and WordArt, move and copy selected cells, create a workbook with multiple worksheets, and link data between worksheets, maintain workbooks, create and format charts and create hyperlinks. Students will participate in online activities and assessments, and submit assignments online, and online course students will also engage in online discussions.

Course Critical Performance and Learning Outcomes

  Critical Performance:
By the end of this course, students will have demonstrated the ability to prepare professional Excel worksheets and workbooks using introductory Microsoft Excel features.
 
Learning Outcomes:

To achieve the critical performance, students will have demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Develop an appreciation for and an understanding of Microsoft Excel Introduction as a vital tool in the production of worksheets and workbooks.
  2. Define the basic to intermediate features and functionality of Microsoft Excel.
  3. Demonstrate the skills required to create, format, modify, maintain, link, save and print basic worksheets and workbooks.
  4. Demonstrate the skills required to move, copy, sort, calculate and link data.
  5. Prepare charts and multiple worksheets.
  6. Apply formatting features such as SmartArt, modifying numbers, adjusting column width and height, alignment, fonts, styles, templates, graphic images, WordArt, borders, shading, headers and footers to enhance the appearance of worksheets.
  7. Compose simple to advanced formulas using mathematical operators and functions.
  8. Differentiate between absolute, relative and mixed cell references.
  9. Apply effective file management skills when creating folders, and copying, moving, deleting and renaming files.

Evaluation Notes and Academic Missed Work Procedure:
Students are encouraged to complete all online work for assessment. Online Training Tutorials: Online training tutorials are marked. There are an unlimited number of attempts permitted for each training tutorial. Online Exams: Online Exams are based on skills learned and practiced in the Online Training Tutorials. If a student does not complete an online exam, they will receive a mark of zero. The actual score for each online exam is recorded. Projects: Projects are completed either in SAM2016 or through the textbook. Projects summarize each section's skills learned. A student's actual score on the assignment will be recorded. All training/exams/projects must be completed as individual efforts unless the instructor states otherwise in writing.
