Land Acknowledgement

Section II: Course Details

Detailed Description
Building upon the skills learned in Microsoft Word Introduction, students learn to create, edit, format and print professional business documents using advanced Microsoft Word features. Topics include: templates, themes and styles, mail merges, collaborating with others and creating/formatting web pages, embedding and linking objects from other programs, hyperlinks, and tables of contents. Students participate in online activities, discussions and assessments and submit all assignments online.

Course Critical Performance and Learning Outcomes

  Critical Performance:
By the end of this course, students will have demonstrated the ability to prepare professional, attractive and accurate business documents using advanced Word processing features.
 
Learning Outcomes:

To achieve the critical performance, students will have demonstrated the ability to:

  1. Define the intermediate to advanced features and functionality of advanced word processing software.
  2. Demonstrate the skills required to open, create, name, format, edit, save, close and print professional, advanced word processing documents.
  3. Create advanced business documents using templates, styles, advanced mail merges, collaborating with others, creating and formatting web pages, embedding and linking objects from other programs, and tables of contents.
  4. Apply customization to features in Word documents.
  5. Demonstrate the skills required to move, copy, sort, share and protect data.
  6. Apply effective file management skills when creating folders, and copying, moving, deleting and renaming files.
  7. Research information from online sources and use to enhance business documents.
  8. Review business documents for alternative synonyms, and spelling and grammatical errors.

Students are encouraged to complete all online work for assessment. Online Training Tutorials: There are an unlimited number of attempts permitted for each training tutorial. Online Exams: Online Exams are based on skills learned and practised in the Online Training tutorials. If a student does not complete an online exam, they will receive a mark of zero. The actual score for each online exam is recorded. Two attempts of each exam are allowed. Projects are completed in the application software and submitted through SAM or SLATE. Projects summarize each section's skills earned. A student's actual score on the assignment will be recorded. All training/exams/projects must be completed as individual efforts unless the instructor states otherwise in writing.
